Overview
POLYPORE is a leading worldwide developer, manufacturer and marketer of highly
specialized polymer-based membranes used in separation and filtration processes. Our products
and technologies target specialized applications that require the removal or separation of
various materials from liquids.
The microporous membranes we produce are highly engineered polymeric structures that
contain millions of pores per square inch, enabling the management of ions, gases and particles
that range in size from the cellular to the nano or molecular level. We believe our membrane
technology platform is one of the broadest in the industries in which we participate.
We serve our customers globally through 11 manufacturing sites and 13 sales and service
locations throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia, with sales relatively balanced across these
regions.
We manage our operations under two business segments: energy storage and separations media.
Business Segments
Energy Storage
- Represents approximately two-thirds of our total sales
- Produces membrane separators that are the critical performance component in two types of batteries: lead-acid batteries used in transportation and industrial applications, and lithium batteries used in electronics applications
Market Overview:*
- The lithium battery market is expected to grow at 10% annually, driven by demand for consumer electronics and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs).
.
- The lead-acid battery market is expected to see continued steady growth due to after-market sales and the expanding worldwide fleet of motor vehicles.
Major Products:
- Daramic® and Darak® lead-acid battery separators
- Celgard® lithium battery separators
Major End-Use Markets:
- Transportation/motor vehicles
- Industrial applications
- Hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs)
